REAL QUICK
Ok so my five minute ago update was about sweatshops, fairtrade, all that stuff... so as i research SB i find some fishy things. I have always been a little reluctant to believe that SB could be all fair trade, but the outcome is much worse that I would have ventured to guess. Check this out guys... they are lying to you about who they are and what they do! Go to responsibleshopper.org and under companies go to Starbucks... please look at it!

Be careful what you believe.
I have no idea what is true about the company i currently work for. i am trying to find out this information myself, and have thus been provided with obvious corporate answers (read: we strive to do the very best for our origin countries...look at such and such and such and such programs) which on the outside, seem very legit. I know Starbucks does good things, like their Organic Shade Grown Mexico that keeps a whole village alive and many trees from being cut down, but they are understandably so reluctant to tell me the bad things. From previous experience, corporate watchdogs sites like this exagerrate on their side just as Starbucks does on the other. The truth lies somewhere in the middle, and no one seems to be saying it. and what's up with the twice as much praise after the criticism? which is true? who's lying to me here? i'm so angry.
i do know SB prez donated 1 million of his personal fortune to tsumnami folks, and we are now donating a couple bucks for each pound of beans we sell and distributing it to the corresponding region. they are also matching all employee donations, setting up CARE programs out the wazoo, etc. on a sadder note, our US Prez only donated $10,000. The rich guy in German Village donated 50 cents along with his morning coffee and is now free of guilt. how much did you give reader?
anyway, i see that Starbucks seems to be doing a lot. SEEMS, which i am naturally skeptical of as a reporter:)whether its more than your average corporate bear, i don't know. seems to be to me. I want to get some real dirt on what they aren't doing for their origin countries, but i don't know how i can find this out without going there myself. i think we can assume that if they were doing all good, they would be as eager to boast about it as they are for their other good programs. If they aren't boasting in a certain area, then we should be leery. but then again there are a shitload of programs going on that they only post on their intranet, and are not listed on the www.starbucks.com like they are keeping them a secret. What's the deal with Starbucks anyway? i am going to write a letter to the boss.
also, if you are donating, send $ to World Vision (87 percent of your donation gets there) or better, Jesuit Refugee Service, which according to Sojo, 100 percent of your donation gets there to Asian people in need.
also, don't forget about AIDS, which kills more people, but not all in one day. also, man. my heart hurts. this soap box is cold and lonely. i'm leaving now.
